With a rich history, the mansion is a staple of Brooke County. However, this beautiful mansion did not bring out the beauty in the people that lived in it. A woman was hung in the stables after her husband discovered that she was having an affair. It is said that the woman haunts the home she once lived in.

Cabell	Huntington	5th Street Hill	For more than 50 years, there has been a story in circulation that late at night when it is raining, a young woman stands at the top of the hill and thumbs a ride from passing motorists. Since her appearance usually occurs after midnight and because it is raining, she always gets a ride. After several minutes inside the car, she vanishes into thin air.  The story goes that in the late 40's a Huntington couple took their daughter and her fiancée to Wayne to be married. It was in the early spring, just the season for marriages, and the wedding went off without a hitch. However, on their way back, rain started coming down in a slow drizzle, the kind that makes roads slick. At the foot of the hill, just before coming to the bridge at the corner of Fifth Street and the boulevard, the car overturned and the bride was killed. Ever since then, but especially in the early spring and only when it's raining, the bride reappears on the hill. Standing at the top and wearing her white dress, she thumbs a ride from passing motorists.

It follows you to the powder room, but it leaves you as you enter the stalls. This presence is suspicious, you will feel her!   I have personally talked to several women who more than back this up

Clay	Procious	Twistabout Ridge	Local residents tell many tales of ghostly happenings on Twistabout Ridge. One of the stories involves a family who moved to the area many years ago. A man came with his pregnant wife and a young girl who was also pregnant. The wife became ill so he hired another young girl to care for her. It was rumored, after the second girl became pregnant, that the man had fathered all three of the babies. The wife mysteriously died, and locals believed she had been poisoned because they couldn't keep her tongue in her mouth after she died. After her death, the man married the last of two girls who came to live with them. She soon became pregnant again and not only lost that baby, but every baby she became pregnant with after that. There was a cemetery on a knoll surrounded by pine trees where all the little babies were buried. It was said that anyone who came to stay in the house after that would see an apparition of a woman with her tongue hanging out of her mouth. Supposedly, the cemetery where all the little babies are buried is haunted. On the same ridge, there was a log cabin where a woman lived. She was stoned to death by her neighbors, who left her lying under the stones after they killed her. After that, anyone who lived in the cabin couldn't keep the front door closed and they could hear the sounds of someone screaming and running around the cabin. There is also a haunted mud hole at Twistabout. There was an old tree next to the mud hole that was once used for a hanging. Witnesses have seen a floating dog on the same road as the mud hole, and a ball of light coming from the hole. People have also heard huge objects falling to the ground near the tree, but never find anything.
Fayette	Cliff Top	Babcock State Park (Cabin #13)	In the mid 90's a woman was murdered by her husband, who was a Nitro preacher, because he was gay and didn't want he or the church congregation to find out.  Since her murder strange occurrences have happened throughout the park but mainly in and around cabin #13.
Fayette	Glen Farris Inn	Glen Farris	The Glen Farris Inn has stood on the banks of the Kanawha River overlooking Kanawha Falls for well over 150 years.  It has been reported that some of those who have visited the property over the years have not left even after death.  For example many of the ghosts seem to be tied to the Civil War.  Many people have reported the apparitions of confederate soldiers and a woman in white who stares out over the river.

Fayette	Montgomery	WVU Tech Ratliff Hall	Various spiritual encounters have occurred in this all girls facility. On the new side of the dorm, especially the 2nd floor, noises of footsteps can be heard following you late at night. Curtains will blow and doors will slam shut -- and the windows aren't even open. One evening the power went out and a resident (for a split second) saw a fireman standing in the hallway. In the year 2000, the 2nd floor of Ratliff caught on fire.

After that when you start running it gets in front of you and is in front of you until you reach the bridge. Then it turns into a headless man. It is believed to be a man that got his head cut off by the train. He follows you until you get to the bridge. Then he jumps off to the stream below.

Fayette	Witchy Hollow	Lick Fork Road	While driving down Lick Fork road drivers will see an old car with bright headlights coming at them, but as soon as the old car looks like it is going to crash into their vehicle, the car will suddenly disappear
Gilmer	Glenville	Glenville State College Pickens Hall	Reports of noises such as furniture moving about, balls being dropped, and marbles rolling around are heard on the ceilings in all of the dorm rooms, these noises occur whether someone is living in the room above or not. Dark shadow figures are seen walking through the main lobby.
Gilmer	Glenville	Glenville State College Clark and Louis Bennett Hall	The story goes that there is a ghost by the name of "Sis Lynn" is known to walk the halls and even visit some residents in Louis Bennett Hall. She also has been seen walking across the grounds between Clark Hall and Louis Bennett Hall. Sis Lynn's grave is located less than 30 yards behind LBH.
Grant	Petersburg	Van Meter's Farm	George Van Meter's small farm was located in Dorcas Hollow, just five miles from where Petersburg is now located. Van Meter was a carpenter who had come to America from Germany. On July 4 while working with his son on the farm they were attacked by a band of Huron Indians.  George told his son to run and protect the family and get them to a nearby settlement.  George held the Indians off long enough so that his son could safely deliver the rest of the family to the settlement.  When men from the settlement returned to help Van Meter they found his headless body .   Since then people have reported seeing the headless ghost of Van Meter apparently searching for his lost head.
Greenbrier	Sam Black Church	Grave site of Zona Heaster Shue	The ghost of Zona Heaster Shue appeared to her mother about two weeks after her death to show her the truth of her untimely death. Zona's husband was abusive and had pushed her down the stairs in a fit of rage. He told authorities that she had just fallen. However, Zona's mother never trusted her son-in-law and didn't believe his story, so she prayed that Zona would return to her and enlighten her with the truth. Zona heeded her mother's request and showed her mother what had really happened, and this manifestation brought about the arrest and conviction of the husband.
Greenbrier	Lewisburg	John Second North House	Legend has it that a young lady was sent to live with her aunt and uncle to keep her away from a soldier with whom she had fallen in love. She spent much time in her room, sinking into a depression. During a Christmas visit to her parent's house, she met her true love and he vowed to come to Lewisburg to visit her. He kept his promise, but was only allowed to speak to her from the corner of the street next to the house. After his departure, he paid children to deliver spring flowers to her each day. He was never able to visit again, and in despair, the young woman hanged herself in the only closet in the house. Since then, owners of the house report smelling flowers, even in the winter, and seeing a female apparition. One owner grew tired of hearing the sounds coming from the closet, so he boarded it up, even though it was the only closet in the house. It is also said that around that same time a soldier, who was on his second visit to Lewisburg, was shot in the stomach and died within sight of the John North Second House.

Many people from murderers, to rapists, were tried in this place and sentenced to life. At night time you can hear horrifying moans coming from inside and out side of the court house. On one occasion there was a report of two teenagers that got chased down the street by a man with a knife. They said it was real misty looking but you could still make out that it was a man with a knife
Greenbrier	White Sulphur Springs	Greenbrier Hotel	This AAA 5 diamond hotel has been a rendezvous for the elite and political figures for many years.  The hotel is said to have a few ghosts who have chosen to remain in he luxurious confines of the hotel.
Greenbrier	White Sulphur Springs	Kate's Mountain	Legend has it that a woman by the name of Kate and her husband who were awakened in the middle of the night by hollering and shouting, she apparently went running with her child for safety while her husband stood ground to fight. The Indians however killed him and went chasing after Kate. She ran and ran but they eventually caught her and scalped her and her baby.  Kate's mountain is located off Route 60 beside the Greenbrier Harper's entrance ,it is a paved road that turn  gravel about a half mile up, it is here that many people report telling there friends and family of all the ghostly encounters.  Sightings of a headless woman walking round in the middle of the night, at the highest peek of the mountain, weird lights hovering just above the tree tops, an unidentified hum that comes from beneath the ground, and car lights, windshield wipers radios seem to come on at will are some of the reported unexplained activity in the area.

His wife didn't discover this until the morning. Ever since then, the piano upstairs plays music. As soon as you open the door to walk up the stairway, you can hear the stairs creaking as he comes down to greet you. When you walk up the stairs, you can hear him following you. You can hear talking behind several of the closed doors. Cold spots can be felt. Doors sometimes open and shut. You can feel his presence behind you as he watches you go about your business. Guests have reported odd happenings, but they do not fear him. If you ask him nicely to leave you alone, he will go about his business

Hardy	Moorefield	Cole Mountain	Since the 1800's an orange red light has been seen from the road. It is said to be a loyal slave who died of exposure while looking for his missing master Charles Jones.
Hardy	Moorefield	Gamble House	The Gamble Mansion in Moorefield has a history of slavery. Willow trees in the front yard still display the marks of where slaves were chained to the trees and beaten savagely. The house, however, is haunted by the spirits of children. Reportedly, the master of Gamble House's daughter had a child by a slave. In hopes of avoiding a scandal, her father killed the child and burned it's body in the fireplace. The disembodied cries of babies can be heard crying throughout the house.

Harrison	Salem	Flinderation Tunnel	There was a train-wreck in Flinderation Rail-Road tunnel because some men were doing some work on the railroad and did not realize a train was coming, especially not as fast as it was. One of the men could not get into one of the cubbyholes in time, and the train caught him, causing it to derail. The railroad through this tunnel was shut down because people could hear train whistles and see the lights of an invisible train coming towards them. Then, the KKK also took victims there to do lynching and such. This tunnel has a lot of hidden history. Today, it is part of the Rail-Trail, but the train whistle can still be heard along with other various sounds: screaming, metal scraping on metal, sobbing

Jefferson	Harpers Ferry	The Historic Chapel of St. Peters	Many people have seen the priest standing outside of the church and several people have heard the screams of the wounded soldiers.  St Peter’ s is a mission chapel belonging to the parish of St. James, in Charles Town, in the Diocese of Wheeling-Charleston (Roman Catholic). They have services there every Sunday, year round.  In the months of May through November there are docents there on the weekends to welcome visitors to the church.
Jefferson	Shepherdstow n	Shepherd College Gardiner Hall	A homecoming queen who slipped in the shower and died from a head wound still walks the halls here. She usually walks across the football field at midnight on the anniversary of her death, and she has been seen in the third floor bathroom where she fell.
Jefferson	Shepherdstow n	Shepherd College Kenamond Hall	A ghost of a small boy messes with TV and electronic equipment. A ghost named George has been heard and seen in the basement of this building. Legend has it that he fell and hit one of the boulders that the building was built on during construction of the structure.
Jefferson	Shepherdstow n	Shepherd College   Miller Hall	This building used as a Civil War hospital and many civil war ghosts are seen, also a nursing student who was supposedly failing, hung herself in the attic (which is now locked), the staff says the attic was kept locked because the college was afraid that the students would hurt themselves on loose floorboards and/or damage the area, and as a fire problem since students would go up there and smoke.
Jefferson	Shepherdstow n	Shepherd College Shaw Hall	Shaw hall is located behind Miller Hall.  Rumor has it there was a small cemetery there that ran along the edge of the school property and houses that back to it. There is a woman in a long white nightgown with long, curly red hair that stands at the windows at the ends of the dorm floors. She just stands there, if you try to get close, she will disappear. No one knows who she is or why she would be in the dorm. The rumor was that she was buried in that cemetery and there were no sightings of her until the baseball field or both dorms were built. Somehow the construction disturbed her, for whatever reason.
Kanawha	Alum Creek	Alum Creek   Baptist Cemetery	This cemetery sits on the hill behind the Alum Creek Missionary Baptist Church.  On several occasions visitors to the cemetery have reported and elderly man who appears to be confused wandering around the cemetery.  When they approach him he disappears in thin air
Kanawha	Belle	Hale House Cabin Creek Quilts	The Hale House is a historical house near Cabin Creek, West Virginia. The legend of the house is that a woman lived there with her abusive husband and his uncle. One night, someone killed the husband. There was an investigation, but no one was ever convicted for the crime.  The man still roams the house and grounds seeking justice for his murder.
Kanawha	Charleston	Capital High School Theater	The theater of Capital High School is haunted by an unknown specter. Students and faculty alike have reported feeling a "presence", often while working late to prepare for school productions. The most common haunting is the mysterious dimming of lights, even when the sound booth is locked and no one is in there.? No one knows for sure who or what haunts the theater; however, many have claimed that they do not feel threatened by the occurrences.
Kanawha	Charleston	Capitol Plaza Theatre	This theatre was built in 1909 on the site of the old Welch Mansion that had stood there since 1798. The theatre still houses some of the family that once lived in the mansion. Capital Plaza is now a venue for artists such as Tori Amos, R.E.M., and other well-known musicians. The former theatre where "Mountain Stage" was recorded, is a place that gives people chills when they enter the area. The most prolific ghost here is that of John Welch. He was the son of the man who built the house and heir to the Welch fortune. John is very sneaky and likes to play around with peoples' minds. He is quite protective of the place and of the actors who frequent the stage. Another ghost, not quite as active, is known as Molly Welch. She was John's youngest daughter who died of pneumonia in 1840 around the age of eight. She is very shy, but sometimes when an actor is standing on stage, she can be seen sitting in the front row of the balcony.
Kanawha	Charleston	State Capitol Building	The spirit of a woman has been seen in the halls and rotunda on several occasions.  Also the spirit of a maintenance man who died of a heart attack many years ago appears to continue his work long after death
Kanawha	Charleston	Sunrise Mansion & Carriage Trail	Originally built by the later, Gov. MacCorkle in the mid 1800's it sits on the crest of a hill above downtown.   Gov. MacCorkle has been seen by numerous visitors and staff in and around the museum. Home to the graves of two unidentified young women found murdered on the grounds who are rumored to still seek justice for their murder to this day. The old carriage trail is barely noticeable from the train platform, but driving up the hill on the right side of the forked road motorists can see a clear wide carriage road leading to what is now Sunrise Museum. Vagrants and homeless people are said to spend some nights near the bottom of the trail waiting for a train to hop, and high school students sometimes wander the trail at the top of the trail behind the museum. No one ventures past the desecrated statue of a Our Lady. A dark spot exists in summer and winter at the second curve from the top of the trail
Kanawha	Charleston	Spring Hill Cemetery	For many years this beautiful cemetery has sat on a hill overlooking the city's downtown and East End.  There have been many reports of paranormal activity here including ectoplasm and EVPs.
Kanawha	Charleston	C & O Train Depot	On the bank of the Kanawha River, at the train depot, just at the bottom of the exclusive South Hills mountain drive, the Charleston Train Depot rivals any 19th century European Town Center. At the depot, flanked by the river on one side and a winding suburban mountain road also exists a carriage trail which led, in days gone by, to the Governors Mansion. The depot has a restaurant and a scenic view.

Kanawha	Charleston	Watt Powell Park	Watt Powell Park was built in 1948 to replace a wooden ballpark that had twice burned (1939 & 1944). It is named for Watt Powell who financed part of the construction for the park.  There have been several accounts of a phantom in the stands.  Some claim it is an elderly man who lived near by and attended nearly all of the home games who passed away in the late 90's.  The Charleston Alley Cats of the Sally League moved downtown to Appalachian Power Field while Watt Powell was sold for redevelopment and natural gas rights. It is scheduled to be torn down
Kanawha	Charleston	Mountain State Hospital	****THIS SITE HAS BEEN TORN DOWN****Located in the East End of downtown Charleston this former hospital has been used as a rehabilitation center, nursing home, and hospital.  It has been abandoned for many years and has been rumored to be home to many spirits.
Kanawha	Charleston	Office Building 205 Capitol Street.   Formerly Woolworth's Five and Dime	Seven firemen were killed in the March 4, 1949, fire at Woolworth's Five and Dime on Capitol Street, the most firefighter deaths in one blaze in state history.  The fire began in the early morning hours in the basement of the building.  At around 5 am a policeman noticed the fire and called it in.  Firefighters from the Central Station were on scenes minutes later and found the basement completely engulfed and the first floor nearly fifty percent engulfed.  They formed a plan of attack that included cutting a hole in the floor to spray water on the inferno in the basement.  The plan was working well until the wooden floor supports gave way causing the firefighters to plunge into the basement.  Of those who fell seven died that day and it is said that you can still see some of the firefighters walking the halls of the building. Kanawha	Saint Albans	Shelton College	This former college is famous for sighting of the "lady in pink"  She has been seen here in the home as well as in the cemetery where her baby is buried.
Kanawha	Saint Albans	Under the Nitro/St.	In 2001 a vagrant man got drunk and somehow ended up burning to death underneath the bridge on the Saint Albans side.  Since that day in early January he has been seen wondering around that area.
Kanawha	South Charleston	Thomas Memorial Hospital	Staff and patients have reported a mysterious blue light that seems to float through the hallways immediately preceding the death of a patient.   This phenomena has been verified by several employees
Lewis	Jane Lew	Route 19 between Clarksburg & Jane Lew	An apparition of a teenage boy dressed in black has been seen crossing the highway. Rumor is this boy committed suicide, by stepping out on the road in front of an eighteen wheeler. He is spotted any time during the evening, and will stand in the middle of the lane until you drive by. He stares at you with a helpless look on his face. Rumors are to be said that he was abused by his father.
Lewis	Weston	Weston State Hospital	Just like all mental institutions Weston State Hospital has it's share of ghost stories.  The souls of the long departed, unfortunate residents are said to still roam this massive building.
Lewis	Wildcat	Cleveland Wildcat Road	This area was owned by a wealthy lady from the early 1920's until the late 1980's. She lived there her whole life. When she passed on, her ashes were buried beside a cabin on the mountainside. People have said that they have seen her walking the dirt road wearing a hat and long summer dress
Lincoln	Hamlin	Isaac-Sloane Cemetery	There is the presence of a strange woman. She comes up behind you and blows on your ears. Sometimes she will even whisper a request. You can hear giggling and crying. Sometimes, they can even be seen.
Lincoln	Harts	Piney Bottom	Piney Bottom is the location for numerous sightings of a headless man dressed in black walking the area. One account happened many years ago. At the first creek crossing there used to be a thing that jumped on the back of horses as people rode threw. It would ride with the unlucky traveler until the horse reached the other creek crossing. It would then jump off the horse.
Lincoln	Harts	Spry Cemetery @ Dry Branch Hollow	A woman by the name of Dixie V. Counts is buried in this cemetery beside her still born infant. The baby's name is Charlie and he died along with his mother during labor. On a full moon, the dates of their death can be clearly seen and Dixie can be seen rocking her baby. The both of them appear in white gowns and seem to be crying. There is also a legend about the devil appearing to a man on the foot bridge of this cemetery during the 1950's. The devil challenged the man to a fight because he was mean to his family and neighbors. The man had even claimed just the day before that he was mean enough to whip the devil himself. When he said to the devil, "Come over here to the road, and I will fight you," the devil replied, "You know who I am and I cannot cross running water." With wicked laughter, he disappeared. The next day, a boy was walking with the man who had been challenged by the devil. He went to the bridge and found cloven goat hoof prints branded into the wood of the bridge
Logan	Chapmanville	Chapmanville High School	In the band room office of Chapmanville High the ceiling has always leaked. Maintenance workers have replaced ceiling tiles, pipes, and repeatedly checked the roof above for leaks, but the ceiling continues to leak. PVC pipes have replaced metal piping, yet the water leaking is a reddish hue. Stories have been told that previous to the school's construction, the bottom which it occupies was a swampy area, and it has been said that a murder occurred there on the spot that is now the office of the band room
Logan	Ethel	1915 Abandoned Mine	A once profitable mine located on a mountainside in a small community known as Ethel. Eerie presences are known to be seen near the mine opening. Footsteps could clearly be heard echoing from deep within the cavern. A small light waving from within it's depths slowly passing back and forth.

Marion	Mannington	The Witch's Grave on Highland	They say a long time ago there was a witch and a warlock buried in the church cemetery and the tombs are turned upside down. They say if you go up there late at night you will see glowing in the woods and here strange noises. Many sightings of the witches have been seen.
Marshall	Dallas	Citgo - Dallas Pike	Workers claim to have seen black shadows on the cameras, gas pumps going off without the handle being lifted, and a dot that dances around on the outside camera
Marshall	Moundsville	West Virginia State Penitentiary	West Virginia's most famous haunted site. This facility was once one of the most violent jails that ever existed. It was condemned and shut down in 1995, and now claims to be the most paranormal site on the East Coast. This place is haunted by former inmates, and in this place you can see lights going off, and sometimes you can hear laughing, and as well as iron doors shutting, by themselves. Witnesses have reported hearing footsteps walking up stairs in areas without stairs, the appearance of mysterious formations, and many other horrifying experiences. The spirits are believed to be those of past prisoners.  It was a common belief among prisoners that if you died behind bars you could never leave.
Mason	Gallopolis Ferry	Mai Moore House	The remains of the Mai Moore House sit perched on a cliff overlooking the Ohio River as they have for nearly two hundred years.  Today there is not much left of the home and what is has been overtaken by the woods and briers. Although we captured no paranormal activity, we definitely experienced some unusual things and feeling at the ruins of the plantation.  The entire area has an odd feeling about it and we seemed to have footsteps following us around the home and down the hill.
Mason	Gallopolis Ferry	Bruce Chapel	Bruce Chapel is a small abandoned rural church in Gallopolis Ferry, WV.   We made to stops at the church during our search for the Mai Moore Mansion.  The church has a graveyard with graves dating back to the early eighteen hundreds.
Mason	Glenwood	Plumley Mansion	There was a woman in a white dress that got thrown in the well by her husband. Now she haunts the place. There was also a black guy who hung himself in the closet upstairs. If you go in the basement you can see blood on the walls you can also get lost down there. If you go in there at night you will hear the woman screaming and you will hear the black guy upstairs hang himself. Also reportedly there was a death of a little girl on the property as well as a cemetery with over two hundred graves that was buried underneath the railroad tracks.  This house is privately owned and not abandoned, please do not trespass.
Mason	Green Bottom	General Jenkins House	Home of Confederate General Albert G. Jenkins, State run and open to the public. Paranormal activity common throughout the house, including sightings of figures and swirling gray mist, feelings of not being alone or of being watched, loud footsteps, depressions as if a body was lying on unused furniture and possibly related encounters near grounds. Multiple witnesses, numbering in the dozens.
Mason	Grimm's Landing	General McCausland Mansion	Home of General John McCausland, 1836-1927, one of the last officers of the general staff of the Confederate Army. He served in Pennsylvania, the Virginias, and Maryland. He led Lomax's cavalry against Sheridan in Valley Campaign. A sense of being watched and phantom footsteps that follow you everywhere have been reported here.
Mason	Lakin	Lakin State Hospital	Established in 1919 by an act of the Legislature. Opened for colored patients in 1926 and integrated in 1954. In 1957, the Hospital acquired the former Boys Industrial School. A rehabilitation center has since been added to the hospital. Lakin has 3 floors, you can feel something as soon as you enter. At times you can see a patch of a bluish fog around the place. You can hear footsteps on the second and third floors. Doors slamming with no explanation and even being touch by something. You always have the feeling of something is watching you. It has many cold spots throughout the building.  The building has had many uses including a juvenile detention center and mental institution.  It was well known as one of the worst mental institutions in the state.  This property is owned by the state of West Virginia and the new hospital is located right across the road.  The sheriff will be called and you will be arrested if you are caught trespassing here.
Mason	Point Pleasant	Lowe Hotel	Guests who stay at the 100-year-old Lowe Hotel in downtown Pt. Pleasant report numerous unexplained spirits.
Mason	Point Pleasant	TNT Area	Called T.N.T. Area because the U.S. Military used to make explosives there during World War II. There are over 100 igloos in the area, where they stored the T.N.T. This is the place where sightings of the Mothman have occurred. The first sighting was here at the old North Power Plant, now destroyed
McDowell	Iaeger	Sandy Huff Hollow Rd.	There are several hauntings and ghosts in this hollow. One, in particular, is the strange appearance of an extremely large "dog-like" creature that many of the hunters and ATV riders in the area have seen. Chickens, cats, and other dogs always turn up missing from their homes. Some say that they have seen the creature more than once and have also seen the creature stand up on two legs and run off into the woods. Some hunters say that they have been stalked by the creature while hunting. One lady explained that she noticed the creature outside her mobile home. Once the creature noticed her looking, it made its way to the window. The lady quickly ran through the home locking doors and turning off lights. She said that the "thing" banged and scratched on her home all night
McDowell	War	War Annex Gym	A young woman reportedly hung her self in the girls bathroom at the gym. You can got to the bathroom and hear things. You can go to the area leading up to the stage, and turn off the lights and you can feel something there.
McDowell	Welch	McDowell County Courthouse	Here on the steps of the McDowell County Courthouse, fifteen to twenty Baldwin-Felts Detectives ambushed and killed Sid Hatfield in retaliation for the Matewan Massacre fifteen months earlier.  Occasionally a man fitting Sid's description is seen walking the steps here.
McDowell	Yukon	Yukon #2 Mine	Another abandoned coal mine. Used to be a profitable coal mines but due to the large losses of life it was closed. Now the ghosts haunt the place every night.
Mercer	Bluefield	Bluefield State College Mahood Hall	A young girl is known to haunt the old hallways and basement of the hall.   On several occasions students have reported dozing off and opening there eyes to see the young girl right in front of them.
Mercer	Bluefield	Wade Elementary School	Different sightings has been reported about seeing children running down the halls although this school has been closed down quite some time now. There has been a few people killed at Wade including a women getting decapitated and three kids falling over dead for no apparent reason.
Mercer	Bluewell	Woodlawn Cemetery	There are several ghosts that supposedly linger on in this graveyard Reportedly the spirits will even l tell you to leave.
Mercer	Princeton	Lake Shawnee Amusement Park	The amusement park was in operation from the 1920s to the 1960s.   During that time there were two accidental deaths of children.  Also the first settler of Mercer county built his homestead on the same land and his family was brutally murdered about 130 years before the opening of the amusement park.  The group has been rumored to be an old Indian burial ground.
Mingo	Matewan	The streets of Matewan	On May 19, 1920, thirteen detectives, including Baldwin-Felts president Thomas Felts, younger brothers Albert and Lee, arrived in Matewan to evict miners and their families from their homes in the Stone Mountain Mine camp. Nothing angered miners more than "thugs" forcing women and little children from their homes at gunpoint. Word of the evictions spread like wildfire. Angry miners from Matewan and the surrounding area grabbed guns and rushed to the town as the detectives evicted six more families in dismal rainy weather. When the detectives returned to Matewan that afternoon, having finished their jobs, Hatfield, surrounded by armed miners, tried to arrest Al Felts for conducting the evictions without proper Matewan authority. As he and Mayor Testerman glared at Al Felts and the other detectives outside the railroad depot, someone fired a shot, and the battle was on. It lasted about a minute, but hundreds of shots were fired. Al Felts and Testerman fell in the first volley. When it was over, seven detectives, including both Al and Lee Felts, Mayor Testerman, and two miners were dead or dying.  Some of those unfortunate souls who lost their lives that day are still seen wandering the streets here.
Monongalia	Morgantown	West Run Rd.	Cemetery and woods are believed to be haunted. If you travel the road late at night you will notice that the hundred crosses sitting on the hill are illuminated and eerie. In fact, local witches have their Sabbaths up on this hill on their holy days.
Monongalia	Morgantown	WVU Beta Theta Pi House	Residents of the fraternity have reported clanging of chains in a lower room of the house. It was believed to be the ghost of the late butler of the house in the 1940s . Now it is believed to be the spirit of an old homeless person they let live in the basement of the house in the 80's. He killed himself in the area where the noises are known to come from.
Monongalia	Morgantown	WVU Library	On the 10th floor of the old section of the library one gets the distinct feeling of being watched also the elevator opens and people are heard entering and exiting without being seen. The side desk areas also seem to be heavily occupied as writing can be heard from empty desks. Apparitions have also been seen.? In the new section one gets the same sensations occasionally as if coming from the older building.
Monongalia	Morgantown	WVU Elizabeth Moore Hall	The woman for whom the building is named has been seen on numerous occasions in and around the building.  Also a picture of inexplicably moves about the building.
Monongalia	Morgantown	Cheat Lake	In the early 1970's, two college students were hitchhiking for a ride back to their dorms on Evansdale Campus. Apparently, they were picked up in the downtown area and not found again for months. Their decapitated bodies were later discovered near the lake, but the heads were no where to be found. The murderer and the case still remain a mystery today. It is believed however, that the two girls roam the woods near the lake, searching for their heads. Many car accidents have been reported on Route 857 North because of blurry apparitions of two girls running back and forth through the woods, distracting late night traffic.
Monongalia	Morgantown	Morgantown Public Library	The public library employees have reported a ghost. Especially when working late in the evening.  Mainly the ghost is only heard but on a few occasions an apparition has been seen
Monongalia	Wadestown	Gobbler's Knob	There is a very old graveyard in an old hollow known as Gobblers Knob. A man in the back corner of the yard in a heavy blue coat with a rifle has been reported here n multiple occasions.
Monongalia	West Greene	West Greene School	Office is a separate house from school, there are strange banging noises and bizarre animal like creatures that appear, also doors swing open on own.
Monroe	Cashmere	The Mann House formerly Solitude Palntation	Reportedly many spirits linger here at this former grand plantation known today to the locals as the “Mann House”.  The most commonly reported strange occurrences are the phantom cries of an infant, a confederate soldier pacing up and down the staircase, a blue glow emanating from a window as if a light is on, and objects moving on their own. “I once had a Christmas ball roll up onto my foot.  Also one night I saw the apparition of a young boy in well worn clothing with shoes on that were far too big.”   This is a private residence and the current residents claim to be experiencing no strange activity of any kind.
Monroe	Sweet Springs	Sweet Springs Sanitarium	In a beautiful valley in Monroe County just shy of the Virginia border, lies Old Sweet Springs, one of the most famous of the spring resorts. Founded by William Lewis in 1790, it still stands with its 300-foot-long brick building, spacious white columned porticoes, bath house, brick cottages, and shaded lawn. It carries with it a proud history, and generations of significance. This resort has sat empty for nearly a decade.  Once a premier hotel and resort it later became a mental institution and a state run nursing home.  Needless to say the building has seen its share of tragedy in the last 211 years. While we were asking around we heard stories of rape, murder, and brutal treatment some of the patients.
Monroe	Lindside	Old Winkel Family  Farm	There is an old brick house way back in the woods where an elderly couple once lived. The home burned at an unknown time but the chimney still stands to this day and people say the old man's spirit lingers.
Nicholas	Summersville	FoodLion Supermarket	A young girl known as Sally to the many that have seen her haunts the FoodLion in Summersville .She is a young girl around the age of 8, that knocks stuff off the shelves and then returns them to there original spot. However, when Sally gets upset she is said to pick up wooden crates and smash them to the ground. After, months of research the management was told by the former owners that Sally was buried underneath the store's location.
Ohio	Triadelphia	Roney's Point Tuberculosis Center	Roney's Point is somewhat of a gathering place for college and high school students. The TB center was also used as a state insane asylum. The structure was being used up until around 1976, when half of the center burned down. People have reported strange occurrences inside the building.
Ohio	Valley Grove	The National Road	Near the PA border, people have heard blasts like that of cannons in the woods near the road.
Ohio	Warwood	Glenn's Run Road	This is the site of the brutal murder of a child by its mother That supposedly was the site of a grizzly killing. It is said that a long time ago in this 2 story house a mother murdered her newborn baby by throwing it into the fireplace to burn to death. It is said that sometimes while walking down this dark, country road, past where the house used to be, you can hear a baby crying. This spot is just off the road, about a half mile up from Warwood, across a bridge. The original house has long been gone and this was once the site of a landfill. Now there is a newer home on that very site.
Ohio	Wheeling	Tunnel Green	Old train tunnel, that is said to be haunted by a man from the early 1900's who was killed by a train. Also said to be built underneath a cemetery so the people buried there are said to be unhappy because their eternal rest has been disturbed. Even in broad daylight, the tunnel is pitch black.
Ohio	Wheeling	Main Street Bridge	Main Street Bridge is allegedly haunted by two different ghosts. One ghost is a gentleman who, after getting down from his wagon to repair a hitch that came undone, was trampled to death by his own team of horses. He has been seen on the bridge, asking the whereabouts of his horses. The other bridge ghost is of a local businessman. During the construction of the bridge, he was inspecting the safety of the workplace. When he learned one of the temporary bridges was unsafe, he crossed it himself to make sure the workers weren't in danger, and was washed away in floodwaters when the bridge collapsed. His body was never found.
Ohio	Wheeling	Old Fire Department	The old fire department is rented out. If your ever in there you can feel someone tap you on the shoulder, doors being shut, people walking across the floor and the sound of someone on a respirator.
Ohio	Wheeling	Monument Place Mansion	It is said the ghost of the previous "lady of the house" is a common visitor. She has been spotted in different rooms by the cleaning staff during the last several years. They report hearing music and dancing on the second floor.
Ohio	Wheeling	Wheeling Peninsula Cemetery	This is a cemetery in the East Wheeling / Fulton area of Wheeling. It is right next to an old World War 2 materials factory. There have been numerous reports of paranormal activity.  It is sometimes just referred to as foundry cemetery.
Pendleton	Riverton	Seneca Caverns	Tour guides and tourists have reported seeing small balls of light bounce along the floor and walls of the caverns. If the balls are approached, they move away. Also, a "ghost tour" sometimes follows unsuspecting individuals through the cave. Other strange things, such as doors slamming as tours approach, and lights flickering off and on are regular happenings.
Pleasants	Arvilla	Ike's Tomb	The story goes that over 100 years ago a woman buried her child in a glass tomb so that she could always see her child again. She would return to it daily to take toys and talk to her son.  As the years went on the woman spent increasingly more and more time at the tomb.  This is where the stories varies because by some accounts she died peacefully at home while in other she died of exposure at the tomb late one night.  However the legends all agree that she still visits the tomb to this day.
Pocahontas	Dunmore	West Virginia Colored Tuberculosis Center	Nearly 1000 African-American  women and men spent their  last days suffering with Tuberculosis at this isolated location in Pocahontas County and nearly 300 of them are permanently laid to rest here.  This is a very isolated and active paranormal location. In the mid 1990's the location was renovated and turned into a correctional facility and is not available for the public to visit
Pocahontas	Seebert	Watoga State Park	Visitors to nearby Watoga State Park report seeing an exceptionally tall bald-headed man suddenly spring up along the fence row next to a cornfield. The tall, glowing figure appears on especially foggy nights about midnight and stares intensely, moving only his head and not his body as cars pass. The man doesn't stand up, as one would from a lying position, but rather springs straight up, without bending his knees in a perfect arch. The figure is at least 6-1/2 feet tall, bald and has an eerie halo-like glow around his entire body that almost illuminates the fog.
Preston	Kingwood	West Point	There is an old graveyard that dates back at least one hundred years. Apparitions of a little girl have been reported.
Preston	Terra Alta	Hopemont State Hospital	The front part of the hospital, the old section, is said to be the home of the spirits of both male and female patients.  The second floor purportedly has a lot of activity because it was the surgery ward for TB patients. When you look at the building you feel that there are many eyes on you. Many members of the nursing staff can tell you about getting locked in rooms, furniture moving around room, seeing previously deceased nurses and patients wondering the halls. There are tunnels under the whole property and all buildings on the property are haunted to some extent.
Putnam	Teays Valley	Scary Creek Battlefield	First Confederate victory in Kanawha Valley fought here July 17, 1861. Charge of the Rangers under Captain (later General) Jenkins won the day. Those who have visited the battlefield at night have reported strange lights and noises.
Putnam	Eleanor	2 story unidentified home	A two story home in a little town named Eleanor. It sat on about an acre with huge elm trees and a big area for a garden. The house was white with dark green trim. Two stories with four bedrooms upstairs and a bathroom. From within this house you could see ghostly appearances, hear ghostly sounds, and smell the worst smells. On most occasions you could hear the sound of a rocking chair as if it was rocking in the living room, when there was no rocking chair there. You could see shadows coming down the stairs in the appearance of a woman. Often you could see bright orbs and flits of lights in and over the garden at night. Now this house is an Office Complex.
Raleigh	Beckley	Beckley Junior High School	It used to be a Hospital during the Civil War. There was a young woman named Hannah who worked as a nurse. There were some slaves one day that were locked up in the room. Then Hannah was killed. She moans and you can hear footsteps up and down the halls.
Raleigh	Beckley	Soldier's Memorial Theater	Personnel and artists at the theater say they have been haunted for years by the appearance of a gray gentleman ghost, accompanied by mysterious music and children’s laughter. No one is sure who the gentleman ghost is or why he roams the theater, but many say it is linked to an accident that took place during the construction and grand opening of the building. Of course, one must also keep in mind the role the Beckley area played in the Civil War. There was a Union hospital and cemetery in the area that served many injured soldiers, some of whom died during their stays.
Raleigh	Beckley	Raleigh County Courthouse	People have been seeing a spooky figure in the Raleigh courtroom, they say the ghost looks to be a female in a red dress.  Nobody really has any clue who she is or why she would be haunting there.
Raliegh	Glen Daniel	Trap Hill Fire Department	Some fireman have reported the spirit of an old fireman who died in a fire there still travels with the crew to fires and walks the halls at night.
Raleigh	Sandstone	Sandstone Ghost Light	The ghost light originated during the Civil War, in an area that was made up of Confederate supporters. Samuel Richmond, whose house was nearby and was a known Union supporter, ran a canoe service that would take people from one side of the New River to the other. During one of his ferry trips, Samuel was shot by a Confederate sympathizer and just barely managed to paddle back to his home before he died. Visitors say you can see his “spirit” still making the journey from one side of the river to the other. This is really unusual in that Ghost Lights usually travel over land, not water.
Randolph	Elkins	Davis and Elkins Graceland House	Also known as Graceland-Halliehurst Mansion, local legends said the main haunt was a slave who was beaten to death an buried in the basement. (Which was and probably still is a dirt floor)Noises, feelings of being watched and followed. This house is so haunted that a local prom was shut down.
Randolph	Elkins	Davis And Elkins College Halliehurst House	Sounds Daughter of the late Stephen Benton Elkins is seen in her bedroom on the second floor which hosts the Admissions Office.? During nights when students visit, Hallie would sneak up on these students, and run up and down the stairs.? Reports have been told by counselors as well as security.
Ritchie	Ellenborro	Ritchie County. Middle / High School	A teacher and her 2nd period class heard knocking and voices in the walls they thought it was odd because nobody was on either side of the walls, it was all 4 walls at one time, and way too loud to be another class.
Ritchie	Harrisville	North Bend State Park Tunnel 19	One of several old train tunnels that runs through North End. It is said that during one of the world wars, a woman was on her way to be married, dressed in her wedding gown. She fell off the platform as a train was coming and was killed. As you approach the entrance of the tunnel, there is a very distinct drop in temperature and gusts of wind. EFS reads 'Danger' as you reach the middle of the tunnel, and wind often tends to pick up. Also, throughout the tunnel, the small archways on either side appear to be illuminated, even when all flashlights, etc. are removed from their surface.
Roane	Spencer	Spencer State Hospital	In the lower level of the hospital, the mental ward, you can see figures walking, hear moaning, and chains rattling, and some even say you can feel the pain of all the dead when you are in the rooms. It is said that the doctors buried the patients in the dirt floor, and kept using the rooms, and when you enter the rooms, you can feel people breathing on your neck
Summers	Hinton	Irish Mountain Catholic Church	A cold presence was witnessed to pass over in a mist and seem to sit in a pew near them. Some have also reported that they saw a priest late at night in front of the church that was there one second and gone the next
Summers	Talcott	Big Bend Tunnel	Everyone has heard the legend of the race between John Henry and the steam powered drill.  Big Bend Tunnel happens to be the real location of this story.  Although it is unknown just how much of that story is fact and fiction, it is known that the ghost of John Henry haunts this tunnel where he died following the race.
Tucker	Parsons	Darkish Knob	During the days of slavery, this hill was part of the Underground Railroad. Although it was a steep, treacherous hill covered with loose rock, it was a small obstacle on the path to freedom. During one of these flights to freedom, a young girl was headed toward a house at the base of Darkish Knob, where she could sleep for the night and continue over the mountain early the next morning. The house was hard to find at night and she passed it, only to find out several men who were hired to bring her back were chasing her. She urged her horse up the mountain in the pitch-black night, with no light to guide their way. They made it to the top but as she turned around to see where the men were, her horse lost its footing and they both plunged to their deaths down the other side of the hill. It is said today, that on the eve of her fall, you can hear her screaming as she plunges down the hill
Tucker	Thomas	Main Street	The main street of this once bustling mining town is today filled with shops and bars mostly to cater to the skiers from nearby Canaan Valley.  A phantom miner seemingly unaware of the changes over the past one hundred or so years has appeared on several occasions to tourists and asked them, "When will the train to the mine will be passing through?"
Tyler	Sistersville	The Wells Inn	Guests and staff report the sounds of writing in his former 2nd floor office and apartment, footsteps down the halls and through its obscure passages, occasionally a door that opens or closes, and a chill presence.
Upshur	Buckhannon	Macedonia Road	When you go under a train bridge in a very sharp turn, it is very dark there and gives off a very weird vibe. Many people have died in that turn because you cannot see the turn until you are right up on it. What seems to be ectoplasm has been  seen many times in the road. It appears to be a thin strip of fog, but there is no other fog anywhere else in the area.

Wayne	Ceredo	Ramsdell House	This house is supposedly haunted the spirits of Civil War soldiers and slaves from the days of the Underground Railroad. This house is rumored to have been the last stop for hundreds of slaves before they crossed into Ohio to freedom. It has been reported that you can hear chains rattling at night and can hear soldiers talking and even playing cards. Doors close by themselves and light go on and off.
Wood	Marrtown	Legend of the Banshee	Marrtown is a small farming community that was settled by Scottish Immigrants in the mid 1800s. They came from an area of Scotland that believed in many supernatural creatures, including witches, ghosts, elves, fairies and not the least of them, the Banshee. The Banshee is an Irish/Scottish death fairy who attaches herself to Scottish and Irish clans. She sometimes rides a white horse and hangs out at waterways washing out the grave clothes of her dead. She is dressed in a death shroud and other tattered rag and her eyes are blood red from crying for her Scottish dead. Thomas and Mary Marr survived the Civil War, but they lost a lot of property. Thomas went to work on the toll bridge in Parkersburg that went over the little Kanawha River. He would always see a figure on a white horse whenever he came home very early in the morning. On February 5th, 1873, Mary awakened with a feeling of dread. She got up and look out the window and saw someone very old riding a white horse who was coming up to her front stoop. She went outside and saw it was an old woman whose eyes had an eerie glow. Finally, the old woman screamed, "Mary Marr, Thomas Marr has just died. Say your prayers, Lady. I bid you well." Woman and horse instantly disappeared. Within the hour, a man who worked with Thomas came to deliver the dreaded news. In fact, Thomas Marr did die -- he died in the icy waters of the little Kanawha River. Some say it was an assailants bullet that brought him down, Others say it was the keening cry of his Scottish Banshee that wailed and startled him into falling and meeting his death in the river below. Many still claim the Scottish Banshee still rides her horse on clear night and she still brings death to those of Irish or Scottish blood. Even to this day, the Marr family is still visited by the Banshee's presence. It would be wise to stay away from Marrtown on cold, lonely, moonless nights.
Wood	Parkersburg	Trans Allegheny Books	This bookstore occupies the former Carnegie Library in downtown Parkersburg. We have been unable to uncover why it is haunted  or history of why it is supposedly haunted but after speaking with someone who works there people often report seeing "a shadowy figure" in the upstairs history section during the evening hours.
Wood	Parkersburg	Blennerhassett Island	The legend has it that there were 3 men camping on the island. It was about two in the morning when on of the men woke up to the smell of perfume. He woke up the other two men smelling to same smell. They looked around and didn't see anything. They looked to their left one more time and saw Margret Blennerhassett with her infant that was buried on the island as were her other 6 year old daughter. The legend says that at night Margret and her kids walk the island.
Wood	Parkersburg	Quincy Hill	During the Civil War, a makeshift tent city was built on top of Quincy Hill. The tent city was built because the railroad had no way to transport wounded soldiers across the river into Ohio. Hospitals in Parkersburg couldn't accommodate all the soldiers. If soldiers' wounds were not critical, or they were simply ill, they were kept at the tent city until room was available at a hospital. However, due to the quick spread of diseases, many men died in agony at the tents. Some even tried to crawl down the hill into town to the nearest hospital. It is the spirits of these men that allegedly haunt the area. Residents in homes built near Quincy Hill report ghostly sightings, strange occurrences and mysterious cries and moans.
Wood	Parkersburg	The Blennerhassett Hotel	"The Blennerhassett opened its doors in 1889 and began serving guests with an unmatched style and elegance. Designed and built by William Chancellor, a prominent Parkersburg businessman, the hotel was a grand showplace that radiated the captivating atmosphere of the gaslight era. " The ghost of William Chancellor is said to still walk the halls of his beloved hotel and he is often accompanied by the strong smell of cigar smoke.   Also the sounds of a young man running through the halls and piano music that seemingly comes from nowhere has been reported.
Wood	Parkersburg	DeSales Heights Academy	***THIS SITE HAS BEEN TORN DOWN*** This abandoned catholic school had many legends and ghost stories associated with it. The building had flashing lights and people walking the halls. Legend has it a young boy stole a gold cross from the priest then the boy died soon after. The cross is supposed to still be there. Also many nuns died there and are buried beneath the school in stoned-up walls. We have had reports of the grounds still being haunted.
Wood	Parkersburg	St. Joseph's Hospital	In the 4-South section of the hospital there has been reports of a ghost on the night shift. Mostly just trash cans being turned over(the most common report) but once or twice a month there may be a scream coming from one of the rooms.
Wood	Parkersburg	Riverview Cemetery	A spiritually active graveyard whose first burial was in 1801, there are a number of haunts that go on, including spirits around the Weeping Woman statue.. Ghost orbs and other anomalies are photographed in Riverview routinely. Sometimes a woman is heard talking, she will often call your name. The ghost of a sea captain is seen crouching over his grave, wearing a formal black coat.
Wyoming	Mullens	Mullens Middle school	It is said that a cheer leader fell in the school an died. At night she haunts the school. Some say you can see lights, movements and you can hear and see something like ghost.
Wyoming	Pineville	Pineville Elementary School	It is said that a janitor got stuck in the boiler room of the school and he got burned alive now he haunts it at nights. When someone goes by the boiler room at night you can sometimes here him screaming for help.
Wyoming	Bud	Bud Mountain	At the bottom of the mountain on a full moon night just as you start up the first steep hill you can hear old man Burg Hammon playing his fiddle. Many years ago Burg Hammon was a peddler of different things mostly musical instruments. It was said that he drove his horse and buggy over the mountain there and died. All you have to do is say, "BURG HAMMON let us hear your pretty music!", and he will play for you.
