Built in 1835 by Captain William Jenkins it was the home of Confederate Brigadier General, Albert Gallatin
Jenkins.  Today the home is a museum run by the West Virginia Division of Culture and History, it is located at
8814 Ohio River Road in Lesage,  on WV Rt. 2 approximately 15 miles north of Huntington.  The hours of
operation are Tuesday through Saturday,10 a.m. to 4 p.m.  The Museum was recently added to the Civil War
Discovery Trail, which links more than 500 sites in 28 states to inspire and to teach the story of the Civil War and
its enduring impact on America.

The Jenkins Plantation has survived numerous floods, the Civil War, and years of desertion. Since 1835 this
formerly red brick mansion has stood watch on the banks of the Ohio River. It is the home of the Jenkins family,
the most noteworthy of whom was General Albert Gallatin Jenkins, C.S.A. At the height of their prosperity the
family owned more than 4,000 acres and ran on of the most successful plantations anywhere.
In this area of western Virginia both Union and Confederate sympathies were strongly held, and because of
that Jenkins was a figure who was either despised or admired. General Albert Gallatin Jenkins’ Border Rangers
made bold raids into the enemy territory of Ohio as well as the areas surrounding Huntington and Point Pleasant,
WV.

The story of the Jenkins Plantation is also the story of more than 50 slaves who worked and lived at Green
Bottom, within yards of potential freedom. Their years of hard labor, birth, death, confinement and possible poor
treatment on the plantation could have left an ineffaceable mark on the environment of the home and land. Today
it is still not known exactly where the slaves' quarters where but the remains of shacks have been found in the
hollow across the road and it has been hypothesized that the “house slaves” slept locked in the basement of the
main home.

Over the years we have received numerous reports of “paranormal activity” at the Jenkins Plantation.  Most
commonly people report seeing the apparitions of two young children playing in the front yard and phantom faces
in the windows of the home.  With Halloween quickly approaching this year we began searching for a location to
investigate.  With all the reports we have received over the past five years about Jenkins, it was an easy choice.
As a side note we were hoping to schedule the investigation right around Halloween but our schedules did not
mesh so the investigation was moved back to November 10, 2005
